Canada Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)

What is the Federal Skilled Worker Program?

The FSWP is a point-based immigration program under Express Entry that allows skilled professionals to apply for Permanent Residency (PR) in Canada. Itโ€™s open to candidates with international work experience, not necessarily tied to a Canadian job offer.

Federal Skilled Worker Program Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the FSWP, you must score at least 67 out of 100 points based on the following six selection factors:

  • Age

  • Educational Qualification

  • Skilled Work Experience

  • English and/or French Language Proficiency

  • Adaptability (including spouse’s background, Canadian education/work)

  • Valid Job Offer (optional, but adds points)

Minimum Requirements for FSWP

Apart from the 67 points, you must also meet these baseline requirements:

  • One year of continuous full-time (or equivalent) paid work experience in a skilled occupation (within the last 10 years)

  • Minimum language proficiency score in IELTS/CELPIP (CLB 7 or higher)

  • Valid Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) from an approved agency

  • Proof of funds to support yourself and your dependents

  • Clean police verification and medical clearance

FSWP Application Process: Step-by-Step

  1. Check your eligibility and calculate your CRS score

  2. Create your Express Entry profile

  3. Enter the Express Entry pool and wait for an Invitation to Apply (ITA)

  4. Submit your complete PR application within 60 days of receiving ITA

  5. Receive a decision within 6 months and get ready to settle in Canada!

To apply for the FSWP, prepare the following:

  • Valid passport

  • Language test results (IELTS/TEF)

  • ECA report

  • Proof of work experience

  • Police clearance and medical certificates

  • Proof of funds

  • Proof of civil status (marriage, birth certificates, etc.)
