Canada publishes a regular list of skilled trades facing labor shortages based on the National Occupation Classification (NOC) system. This includes:
Industrial, Electrical, and Construction Trades
Maintenance and Equipment Operation Trades
Supervisors and Technical Roles in Natural Resources, Agriculture
Processing, Manufacturing, and Utility Supervisors
Chefs, Butchers, and Bakers
Note: Selection under the FSTP is conducted through the Express Entry pool and uses a points-based system. However, due to the labor shortage, your chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) are significantly higher.
To qualify for the Federal Skilled Trades Program, you must:
Have a valid job offer from a Canadian employer (minimum one year duration)
OR a Certificate of Qualification from a Canadian provincial or territorial authority
Possess at least two years of full-time work experience (or equivalent part-time experience) in a qualifying skilled trade within the past five years
Meet the language proficiency requirement:
CLB 5 for speaking and listening
